The aim of this course is to improve studentsf ability to understand and use natural English expressions, vocabulary, and grammar as written and spoken by native speakers. The main focus, however, is on conversational English skills. Various topics and language points with supplementary pronunciation and listening activities will help students to function better in a native speaker English environment. Each lesson introduces a language point and topic through a variety of materials, proceeding to controlled practice and finishing with a chance put the language learned to a practical and useful purpose.

Direct method will be used. All lessons are conducted in English with some Japanese for the sake of expediency. Language points are presented, practiced and then used in freer, inter-active activities. Vocabulary and new expressions are introduced in each class. Vocabulary building, pronunciation and listening techniques will be taught and mastered with plenty of opportunity for students to utilise target language and express for the success of the course.

There will be a mid year and end of year test. The mid year test is written.
The end of year test may also contain a spoken component. The content of both tests is based on material covered in class.

There is no set text. Materials are provided in class by the teacher. As well as class hand-outs, listening tapes, video, newspaper articles and various other resources will be used. It is essential for students to obtain an A4 folder in order to keep a file of all in-class materials and notes to review for the test. Students are obviously expected to come to class with paper, pen, and dictionary.
