The aim of this course is to develop students' ability to speak English. They will be presented with a variety of topics and tasks which will enable them to communicate more naturally.

1st Semester Week 1-2 Personal information/family background/people around you The changing state of the family Week 3-4 Childhood memories An important meeting/ event in your life Week 5-6 Describing towns and cities Similarities and differences between two countries Cultural differences between Japan and the USA Week 8-9 Life experiences Famous people Week 10-12 Part-time jobs - merits and demerits Future work/ ambitions/ dreams 2nd Semester Week 1-2 Summer experiences/views of other lifestyles Week 3-6 The news /TV /The influence of the media Week 7-9 Talking about changes in your society Week 10-12 Social problems : juvenile crime, bullying, suicide, prostitution, living in isolation. Some of the above may be changed depending on students' interests.

Students will be in groups and have to actively participate with all students in the class. Students must communicate with each other effectively. This will involve quizzes, games, questionnaires and video material.

There will be weekly vocabulary quizzes, some mini tests and an oral test at the end of each semester.
This is based on attendance, active weekly participation and all the tests given.
