授業の目的・内容

The development of the four skills so that the student may achieve a reasonable level of communicative efficiency in English. Special emphasis will be put on the speaking and listening skills, because the teacher feels that the average Japanese university student is quite weak in these skills.

授業計画

Introductions. Pronunciation of basic English sounds. Grammar focus on present simple.
Grammar focus on adverbs of frequency. Vocabulary: weather words. Conversation practice: weather in Japan and the world.
Language focus on daily routine, connectors, and the time. Pronunciation: s' sound. Conversation: lifestyles.
Grammar: the past simple. Pronunciation: regular verbs. Talk about: holidays.
Grammar: the present perfect, irregular verbs. Pronunciation: h' v' sounds. Listening: write sentences. Language game.
Travel with English: writing, listening, and speaking skill work focused on planes and airports.
Revision and extension: past, present, and future. Plus short speeches in groups.
Pronunciation: word stress, sentence stress, and intonation.
Vocabulary revision. Grammar focus: past simple or present perfect? Speaking: Have you ever...?
10 Obligation: have to/ don't have to. Job adjectives. Speaking: jobs. Pronunciation: f' sound. Language game.
11 Grammar focus: permission. Reading: the Amish. Conversation: rules. Listening: country rules.
12 Relative pronouns. Pair work: crossword. Functional English: From the airport to the hotel.
13 Revison and extension: the verb have. Listening: song.
14 Focus on Listening.
15 Vocabulary revision. Grammar: possessive pronouns. Listening: song. Language game.

17 Grammar: prepositions of movement. Speaking: time, the country, and daily routines. Listening: the countryside.

20 Focus on Reading.
21 Vocabulary revision. Grammar: comparative abverbs and adjectives. Speaking: your town. Language game.
22 Grammar: first conditional. Pronunciation and Listening: l' sound. Speaking game.
23 Pronunciation: vowel sounds. Revision: some/any, present perfect. Class speech work.
24 Grammar: superlative and comparative adjectives. Listening: countries. Speaking: the best.

26 Revision and extension. Language game.
27 Vocabulary revision. Listening: song. Speaking: possessions. Listening: my favourite things.
28 Final revision.
Week by week, on a step by step basis, we will practise English in lively and interesting contexts. We will also concentrate on the kind of useful and practical phrases and vocabulary students need in everyday situations. There will also be a variety of games, activities and tasks designed to improve the students' practical ability in English. The main focus of each class will be on the fact that language is communication. The schedule will be followed according to each student's ability.

Evaluation will be by continual assessment. This means the student's classroom performance, attendance, and test results will be monitored.
