授業の目的・内容

The aim of the course will be on the development of the four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The teacher feels that the average Japanese student is weak in speaking and listening, therefore special emphasis will be put on these two important skills. There will be many authentic materials and tasks used to boost students' confidence in dealing with real English.

Speaking: introductions. Listening: spelling and numbers. Pronunciation: vowel sounds.
Vocabulary: verb phrases. Pronunciation: sentence stress and weak forms. Listening: dialogue completion. Speaking: living with people.
Vocabulary: personality adjectives. Speaking: your family. Reading: magazine article. Listening: interview with psychologist.
Reading: language school brochure. Listening: people meeting and greeting. Speaking: roleplay.
Pronunciation: intonation. Speaking: lifestyles. Listening: interview with nurse. Reading: magazine article.
Vocabulary: sleep. Pronunciation: word stress. Grammar: gerund and infinitive. Speaking: questionnaire.
Listening: interview with insomniac. Plus song. Speaking: roleplay. Reading: signs and notices.
Grammar: question tags & short answers. Pronunciation: intonation in question tags. Listening: checking information.
10 Revision and extension.
11 Speaking: your childhood. Vocabulary: noun-building. Language game.
12 Grammar: definitve article. Vocabulary: education. Speaking: your education.
13 Reading: magazine article on education. Listening: interview with head teacher/song.
14 Reading: a book review. Speaking: reading habits. Vocabulary: strong adjectives.
15 Grammar: can, could & be able to. Pronunciation: strong and weak forms. Speaking: your skills.
16 Functional English: making requests & asking permission. Vocabulary: verb phrases. Listening: requests. Pronunciation: intonation in requests.
17 Speaking: roleplay requests. Reading: a hotel guide. Writing: a fax to a hotel.
18 Grammar: future forms. Vocabulary: jobs and work. Listening: interview with travel guide.
19 Pronunciation: special vowell sounds. Speaking: work and the future.
20 Reading: magazine article on the future. Grammar: first conditional. Vocabulary: human sounds. Pronunciation: word stress.
21 Revision and Extension.
22 Listening: conversation to 2 people. Song. Speaking game. Reading: short story.
23 Grammar: second conditional. Vocabulary: money. Pronunciation: contractions. Speaking: imaginary situations.
24 Listening: interview. Reading: newspaper article.
25 Vocabulary: shops. Speaking: shop conversations. Reading: London guide.
26 Grammar: modals of obligation. Reading: newspaper article. Speaking: interviewing people.
27 Listening: travel programme. Pronunciation: weak forms. Speaking: roleplay.
28 Final revision.
The schedule will be followed according to each student's ability.

授業方法

Each week the student will have the chance to improve his or her English in three main ways:
1. By practicing important grammar in lively and interesting contexts.
2. By practicing useful and practical phrases and vocabulary in everyday situations.
3. By concentrating on a variety of tasks, activities and games to improve the students' ability in English.

成績評価の方法

Evaluation will be by continual assessment. This means the student's classroom performance, attendance, and test results will be monitored.
