The main aim of this seminar class is for students to build their reading and discussion skills through intensive reading, both in class and for homework. The material will include news articles from various sources with the aim of gaining a better knowledge of global culture and controversial issues, sharpening critical thinking skills, as well as increasing vocabulary and developing presentation skills.

The above themes may be adjusted according to the interests of the actual class. Additional topics will be added by the teacher or by the students themselves.

Intensive reading will be assigned weekly for homework. Students will come to class having read the material and ready to comment, offer opinions, engage in discussions and ask questions. In class time will be spent on vocabulary worksheets, whole class discussions with the teacher, small group discussions, group presentations of research, individual presentations and whole class debates.
