This course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of American society and culture. The particular areas that we will focus are the following: wealth distribution; political systems; race relations; history of immigration; crime and justice system; militarism; mass media; alternative lifestyles; women's status; health; education; war on terror situation. The connections and differences between these topics will be discussed and analyzed.

Each week you will be given a reading assignment, and you will be expected to read that assignment before coming to class. In class you will be expected to discuss the reading assignment. Sometimes you will see a video in class, which we will discuss or write about. Lastly, there will be an exam or project at the end of each semester.
