We will watch and discuss approximately 5 films in class. In addition, you will be expected to watch at least 2 films outside of class as homework. We will also spend some time discussing film history. You will write about 5 short papers and make 2 presentations. The class will be conducted in English and you should be ready to participate actively in class.

Schedule may be changed or adjusted during the year.

Watching, analyzing, and discussing films will be the major activities of the class. You will have many opportunities to speak and write in English to help you develop your vocabulary and speaking and writing fluency.

No exams. Your grade will be based on participation, presentations, and your writing assignments.

There is no textbook for this class. Bring a good dictionary to class and have access to good dictionaries and a thesaurus for your writing.

I will communicate with you frequently by email. Check your email regularly. Please email me (laura.macgregor@gakushuin.ac.jp) with your questions and to let me know about absences from class. When you are absent, you should find out what you missed so you can prepare for the next class.
