The focus of this course is to prepare students to write a comprehensive research paper with the underlying goal of encouraging students to write their graduation thesis in the English language. To achieve that goal, students will read about United States society and culture the first semester, and the second semester will center around students' particular interests in U.S. society and culture. More specifically, this course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of American society and culture. The particular areas that we will focus are the following: wealth distribution; political systems; race relations; history of immigration; crime and justice system; militarism; mass media; alternative lifestyles; women's status; health; education; war on terror situation. The connections and differences between these topics will be discussed and analyzed.

Each week you will be given a reading assignment, and you will be expected to read that assignment before coming to class. In class you will be expected to discuss the reading assignment. Sometimes you will see a video in class, which we will discuss or write about.

第1回目の授業に必ず出席のこと。

「アカデミック・ライティング演習（上級）Ⅱ」は、英語英米文化学科によってクラス指定が行われる。この教科の履修を希望する学生は、３月23日（水）から４月６日（水）までの申請期間内に履修希望アンケートに回答し、仮登録の手続きを取らなければならない。手続きは英語英米文化学科事務室、及び３、４年生ガイダンスにて行うことができる。仮登録を申請せずに履修登録を行っても履修が認められないので注意すること。
