授業の目的・内容

The aim of this course is to facilitate students speaking proficiency, to provide an environment for the expression of ideas and opinions, to be involved in interactive discussion. Through sophisticated themes in reading, the student will be able to develop critical thinking skills, acquire terminology and high frequency vocabulary and engage in verbal production.

授業方法

An overview of the theme of each reading will be presented. Background information will be explained to elicit information from the student pertaining to the theme. Vocabulary will be practiced in activities to offer the students a broader perspective of the appropriate use of words. Idiomatic expression and figurative language will be highlighted and shown how this adds fullness to a reading. Aspects of the theme from a wide scope will be discussed. Students individual thinking will be necessary for discussion.

成績評価の方法

Meaningful participation in each class session will be evaluated.
40% of the cumulative grade will depend on in-depth participation. 30% will be research and preparation done outside of class. 30% will be written assignments and/or verbal presentations.
