授業の目的・内容

This course is designed for students who wish to improve their English reading and speaking abilities by examining current events. Topics may include bioethics, e.g., the transplant and brain death controversies; prejudice and discrimination with regards to race, age, and sex; changing cultural trends in Japan and abroad; educational issues; as well as topics decided on by the class. The textbook for this class will be Mosaic 2. Since this is a Special Advanced Reading Course, students MUST have ADVANCED English proficiency in reading and discussion skills.

The course will cover the topics in the book but the weekly schedule may be adjusted according to the level of the students. The instructor will provide supplementary materials as needed. Students are expected to use English only in class. Extensive readers such as Oxford Bookworms texts will also be assigned during the year.

Class members will be expected to actively participate in whole class as well as small group discussions.
