The Intermediate English Communication ⅠA course is designed for students who are already quite good at English to practice and improve their listening and conversation skills.

11	Having fun: Weekly schedules/weekend activities.
12	Vocabulary test and listening exercises.
13	Arranging meeting times and places.
14	Shopping and prices.
15	Independent research
16	Review of last term's class topics.
17	Memories of the summer.
18	Favorite movies and actors/actresses.
19	Looking back: Personal history and childhood memories.
20	Changes in your life.
21	Talking about favorite vacations.
22	Movie #2 viewing and discussion of movie's content.
23	Life's experiences: Problems and giving advice.
24	Around town: Prepositions of place. Explaining how to get somewhere.
25	What do you think? How to give and listen to opinions.
26	Life at Gakushuin. Class discussion.
27	Famous Japanese TV personalities.
28	Looking ahead: Talking about plans for the future.
29	Workshop-style lesson and review of the course.
30	Independent research.

This course will present everyday functional language in various situations. Students will speak in controlled and guided activities with their classmates, which is a great way to make friends, so it should be fun. Later in the course, students will be encouraged to express their ideas and opinions on a range of interesting and important topics. Communicative-style learning will be a feature of the classes, so students should try and come to class feeling energetic and enthusiastic about learning and practicing English. We will also use a range of interesting audio and DVD materials for listening exercises and to generate class discussion.

A good attendance record will be an important factor in determining your grade at the end of the course. Please bring your textbook, a notebook and a good electronic English-Japanese dictionary to every class.
