授業の目的・内容

The aim of this course is for students to develop their spoken English. There will also be some listening and a small amount of writing. A mix of materials will be used. These often have a reading and listening component. They mostly focus on social issues or topical news items.

Student responses will determine which activities and topics are given particular emphasis.

授業方法

Typically there will be a short talk or questionnaire followed by a reading, podcast or DVD clip. Students cross-check and discuss information, usually in pairs. Crosswords are used for vocabulary reinforcement. Homework: there will be regular mini tests directly related to what has been covered in class.

成績評価の方法

Evaluation is as follows: attendance 20%, mini tests 40%, presentations and class participation 40%.
Students must attend a minimum of 66% of classes.

教科書

There is no set text. Students will be given prints.

参考文献

Keep up to date with current events. The Japan Times, Asahi Shimbun and Daily Yomiuri are recommended.

第1回目の授業に必ず出席のこと。

Students are expected to actively participate and to attend regularly. It is hoped they enjoy this class.
