In this class we will study English by watching and listening to scenes from a number of English-language films, and carrying out activities related to the content and language of each short piece of film. The main aims of this class are to improve listening skills (both intensive and extensive), and to build a functional English vocabulary, with a special focus on authentic, idiomatic English. Short writing activities will help students develop their ability to narrate and sequence events. Finally, the constant use of spoken English in class by all students will help develop oral skills and confidence.
Registration and introduction.
Further information about the class schedule, handouts, worksheets and evaluation will be provided in the first week.
Most of the class activities are designed for small groups or pairs, and are based on a weekly worksheet provided by the teacher. Students will be expected to concentrate, and to show a positive and co-operative attitude when communicating in English with their group members. Homework assignments (often a short writing task, or a vocabulary worksheet) will be set each week, and must be completed.
