The primary aim of the course is to improve your skills in academic writing. The course will focus on three main areas: proper sentence construction, the structure of various types of paragraphs (e.g., narrative, descriptive, process, comparative, etc.), and the organization and writing of essays. Important secondary objectives will include using word processing software, and writing meaningfully and creatively.

８	Chapter 3: Supporting details: facts versus opinions, plagiarism and citations
９	Chapter 3: Direct quotations, reporting verbs and phrases, punctuating direct quotations
10	Chapter 3: Indirect quotations, statistics, review and writing practice
11	Chapter 4: Three parts of an essay, the introductory paragraph, funnel introduction
12	Chapter 4: The concluding paragraph, essay outlining, review
13	Chapter 4: Writing practice, applying what you have learned, reading, questions and suggestions
14	Summing up
15	Independent Research

The class schedule above is subject to change.

Students will work individually and in pairs and groups doing writing, revising, and assessment activities. Afterward, student compositions will be used as a catalyst for sharing thoughts and feelings in English. Use of word processing software and the Internet for research purposes will be encouraged.

Attendance, Punctuality, and Homework = 30% Completion of class work, Participation = 40% Term Paper = 30%

「アカデミック・ライティング演習（中級）Ⅰ」は、英語英米文化学科によってクラス指定が行われる。２年生ガイダンスに必ず出席し、指示に従うこと。また、３年生以上の再履修者、及び他教科免許取得のために履修を希望する者は英語英米文化学科事務室に相談すること。
