授業の目的・内容

The course is designed to provide an example of how students can examine a thematic field in order to find a topic for their graduation thesis. The thematic field in this year’s seminar will be British identity. In the first semester we will survey the issues arising out of immigration into Britain from its ex-colonies, in particular India and Pakistan. As third year students have already expressed an interest in pursuing these topics, there will be particular emphasis on issues of identity among second-generation British ‘Asians’ as represented in films such as My Beautiful Laundrette, Bend it Like Beckham and East is East. In the second semester we will concentrate on students' own research topics, and much of the course will be taken up with the preparation of students' graduation theses.
