授業の目的・内容

The aim of the class is for students to practice and improve their writing skills in English. Many opportunities will be given for students to express their own ideas in writing, while learning the basics of paragraph construction.

授業計画

1 Introductions and explanations.
2 Chapter 1. Organizing ideas. Reading a model paragraph.
3 Writing about your interests. Journal writing.
4 Layout and constructing a paragraph. Sentence combining.
5 Writing a topic sentence and supporting ideas. Drafting and rewriting.
6 Paragraph assignment due! Review.
7 Chapter 2. Prewriting techniques. Brainstorming.
8 The parts of a paragraph. Using transition signals.
9 Making an outline. Compound sentences.
10 Paragraph assignment 2 due!
Chapter 3. Writing a logical sequence of instructions.
11 Listing ideas and outlining.
12 Revise, edit and rewrite your draft. Peer review.
13 Submit final draft.
In-class assignment.
14 Summary and review.
15 Independent study.

授業方法

In class, students will work in a variety of ways. Some class time will be devoted to individual writing assignments and doing practice exercises from the textbook. Pre-writing activities will often involve students working in pairs or small groups to share ideas before writing. Students will often share, present and discuss their written work with classmates as well as with the teacher.

「アカデミック・ライティング演習(初級)Ⅰ」は英語英米文化学科によってクラス指定が行われる。新入生ガイダンスに必ず出席し、指示に従うこと。また、2年生以上の再履修者は英語英米文化学科事務室に相談すること。
