授業概要

This class aims to give students the opportunity to make practical use of the English they learned at school. The class will cover all four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening, with an emphasis on oral communication. Students will be expected to speak English not only with the teacher, but also with each other. The topics students will discuss are topics with which they are familiar, such as travel, the family and food choices. There will be pair or group work every lesson, and groups will perform a short skit in English at the end of both the first and the second semesters. Students will also have practice in writing blogs, short messages and descriptions. The textbook will be supplemented with worksheets, quizzes, discussions and songs.

到達目標

The objectives of this course are for students to gain fluency, accuracy and confidence in their ability to communicate in English. Through listening to short dialogues and songs, students will get used to listening to English and will improve their ability to understand the gist of the language. Writing exercises will help the students to think in English and to communicate their ideas freely.

授業方法

All lessons will be conducted in English. Students will work in pairs or in groups of four or five, and will be expected to participate actively in the lesson. The teacher will give as much individual attention to each student as possible, but the students themselves will be expected to help and support each other in the learning process. A willingness to communicate in English is very important and there is no need for students to practise their Japanese during class time.

準備学習

Students will be expected to spend up to 30 minutes a week reviewing or preparing for the class. Depending on the topic being studied, students may be asked to check new vocabulary in their dictionaries, to complete exercises from the textbook, or to write a short paragraph.
