授業概要

The purpose of this class is to give students many chances to use English to make progress in listening, reading, speaking and writing. Many of the topics in the textbook relate to lifestyles in other parts of the world, and some are particularly relevant to Japan and conditions in Japan that university students are familiar with. Using English to study and discuss these topics will expand students' horizons and also increase their English vocabulary for practical situations.

到達目標

Following exercises in the textbook and participating in class activities will help students become more fluent and confident in their use of English to express their thoughts to others clearly and accurately. Students will also be able to develop more precise and accurate ways to write their ideas in English and give interesting short oral speeches and reports.

The order of study of Units from the textbook in each term may be modified depending on the progress and interests of the students. Additional material to supplement some Units may be included in the class activities.

授業方法

Class time will be spent giving students many opportunities to use English to express their own thoughts and opinions. Students will interview partners in English, participate in small-group discussions and give short speeches - both impromptu and prepared speeches. Students are expected to participate positively in all the activities of the class.

準備学習

Students will need to spend about 40 to 50 minutes each week to prepare for the class activities. Homework will include short writing assignments, reading materials from the textbook, grammar exercises, vocabulary study, some Internet research, and also preparation and rehearsal for in-class speeches.
