In this course students will use the international language of English to learn about world course issues. Students are required to keep a weekly news journal of international stories which will be used as the basis for communication at the start of each class. In addition, students will have the opportunity to improve their listening skill and increase their vocabulary through watching ABC news clips about various topics of interest: culture, science, politics, international relations, the environment, medicine, economics for example.

In this course students will learn about current world events through keeping a weekly news journal in English. They will learn how to communicate the challenging material using difficult word cards and by speaking English with clear ennunciation and at an appropriate speed. They will also improve their listening skills through a weekly lesson from ABC NEWS.

This schedule is subject to change.

Students will be required to participate actively in discussions either in pairs or in small groups. The textbook must be brought to every class and the keeping of a weekly news scrapbook is compulsory.

Weekly Preparation to be done at home:
Each week an article taken from a Japanese newspaper must be written in the notebook as a summary of 6 sentences followed by 2 test questions about the content of the summary. A difficult word card must also be ready at the start of the lesson.
