授業概要

This course will focus on improving your listening, speaking, reading and vocabulary, and writing skills using a variety of materials.  

到達目標

By the end of the semester, you should have significantly improved your listening comprehension, your ability to speak clearly, read with greater comprehension, increased your vocabulary, improved your writing and note-taking skills, and gained better cross-cultural understanding.

授業方法

Much of the class time will be spent learning to understand the English introduced in the textbook and in preparatory readings. Class activities will mainly be oral and will take place in pairs or groups, with presentations to the entire class near the ends of each semester.

準備学習

Most of the reading in the class will be done on-line and will require from 30 to 60 minutes per week. Quizzes will be done on line. Supplementary vocabulary study will be done partly on line.

All students will be enrolled in the class Web site. Regular log-ins will be necessary.
 
Homework, independent study, and quizzes will be completed on line.
 
Deadlines for homework and quizzes vary and are usually several days before classes.
 
・Homework should be submitted by the deadline even if the student has been absent. Homework submitted after the deadline will be marked down 10% periodically. (For example, homework submitted one week late will be marked down by 30%.)
 
It will be necessary for students to prepare according to the homework assignments for in-class communication. This will often include thinking of several ways to express the same idea(s) in English.
 
It is the student’s responsibility to show the instructor she’s done the work. Instructor will not actively check.
 
All English must be original.
 
Cell phone use allowed for dictionaries and time only unless specifically authorized. Airplane mode must be used.
 
Cell phones must be turned off during tests.
 
Students disturbing class will be asked to leave.
