授業概要

This course aims to help students develop their critical thinking, presentation skills and raise awareness about the cause and effects of pollution on the environment. In the first term, students will explore various forms of pollution that is existing in their local cities. The second term will be focussed on globalization, how it is affecting people's lives and changing cultural values. There will be group discussions on interesting news topics and individual reports. Oral presentations will be given as final exams in the first and second terms. This course is interesting as well as challenging for students who want to know more about the changes taking place in society today.

到達目標

Students will gain a broader insight into the different forms of pollution in their own local cities, examine those problems then be challenged to come up with solutions. Students will improve their communicative skills and critical thinking through group discussions. In addition to learning about the effects of pollution and globalization, students will also develop their skills in note taking, doing a short research and learning how to give oral presentations.

授業方法

Class begins with an overview of the topic, brainstorming, homework check, lecture follows then group discussion.

準備学習

Students are expected to do their homework at home and come to class prepared. (approx. 1 hour)
Complete project outline (approx. 1 hour). Practice oral presentation (30 mins.)
The class will be conducted in English.

成績評価の方法

第1学期(学期末試験):30%(Oral presentation)
第2学期(学年末試験):30%(Oral presentation)
レポート:20%(Homework preparation and report)
平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):20%(Group work, participation, attitude, attendance)
Anyone who misses to give a final presentation will not be able to pass that term.
