授業概要

This course considers both practical and theoretical aspects of screenplay. A successful film starts with a great screenplay. We will consider what are the universal storytelling aspects that relate to screenwriting, and what aspects of visual storytelling are unique to the medium of film. Students will critically reflect on these issues while writing loglines, outlines, synopses and a complete short script.

The first half of this course focuses on the craft of story. We will discuss and practice the technical elements of writing a screenplay. The class is writing intensive and you will write and post online film reviews, write loglines, outlines, treatments and script reports as well as film screenplays. Through these exercises you will acquire skills in aspects of craft such as plot, structure, genre, characterization and dialogue.
