授業概要

This course aims to help students develop their essay writing skills, and guide them in writing their graduation papers in English through a process approach. The process includes brainstorming, planning, research, editing, outlining then writing. Students will explore various forms of essay writing i.e. comparative, cause-effect and argumentative. Students will work with partners or in a group to critique and revise their written works. Final exams in both first and second term is a power point presentation to communicate orally thesis research in outline format.

In this course, students will produce simple yet well-organised essays with relevant supporting details. Students will know how to organise their ideas, write notes, edit, finalise, write an outline then write an essay. In addition, students will also learn how to give an oral presentation using power point.

授業方法

Class begins with an overview of the day's topic, check/submission of homework, timed-writing on specific issues, analyse model essays then writing activity. Being late twice is an absence. Three~five absences may result in failure.

準備学習

Complete relevant exercises from the textbook before class (approx. 30 mins.).
Rewrites of outline and type-written essay before class (approx. 1 hr.).

成績評価の方法

第１学期（学期末試験）：40％（Oral presentation of essay in outline format）
レポート：30％（outlines and essays）
平常点（クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等）：30％（Participation, attitude, group work, attendance, homework）
Two lates will be considered as absence.

No textbook. Materials will be downloaded in class or Online.

「アカデミック・ライティング演習（上級）Ⅰ」は、英語英米文化学科によってクラス指定が行われる。この教科の履修を希望する学生は、3月24日（木）から4月4日（月）までの申請期間内に「履修希望届」を事務室へ提出して仮登録をすること。仮登録をせずに履修登録を行っても履修は認められないので注意すること。詳細は学科事務室の掲示板を確認すること。
