授業概要

This course provides an opportunity to view the theme of ecological anthropology and the development of agricultural economy in Southeast Asia in particular from a global economic perspective, and to consider its origins, its responsive strategies, its relations with adjacent regions and disciplines. Students are encouraged to see the pros and cons of alternative explanations and decisions, and to highlight their respective strengths and limitations. In general, this course aims to prepare postgraduate students to evaluate academic works in economic history from an ecological perspective. It presents an intellectual challenge which economic historians need to acknowledge, even if they may not use it directly in their own research or in their everyday economic decision making.
