Watching news reports and reading scientific topics will enable students to learn the skills in the target language.

In this course, students are:1)to watch a brief news report every week and take notes, 2)then to read the script and make sure whether their understanding was right or not, and 3)to evaluate the content from their own knowledge and 'common sense.' By doing so, they are expected to use the English language as means of communication. We may also have occasional DVD/in-class writing sessions with various topics.

Classroom activities include:note-taking in English, pair-work, discussion, and vocabulary building. Also doing exercises on LINGUAPORTA, a web system prepared by the publisher, is recommended.

Students need to spend at least 30 minutes every day to study the textbook outside the classroom. At home, they can watch the attached DVD, so they can preview and listen to the programme. Activity after the classroom, i.e. the follow-up is also necessary.

第１学期（学期末試験）：40％

第２学期（学年末試験）：40％

小テスト：10％（Quizzes will be occasionally given.）

平常点（クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等）：10％

More than 2/3 of the class attendance in each term is required for the permission to write the final examination. That means, absence more than 4 times means you can't write the examination. If you come to the classroom late three times in both sessions, that will be counted as 'one absence.'
