授業概要

In this class students will be given instruction and practice in communicating on everyday topics. The focus will be on the strategies and skills of speaking, and the skills of listening. There will also be some attention to phonology.

到達目標

Students taking this course will receive instruction in listening from both a top down and bottom up point of view. They will also receive practice in speaking among a variety of social situtations and everyday topic areas. There will be explicit support in coping with the phonological profile of English as well as attention to the sounds of English and how they differ from the Japanese syllabary. Students who have been through the Japanese education system have taken on board a fair amount of English grammar and vocabulary. However, most of them have not received supportive instruction in the strategies and features of listening, nor have they had much opportunity to speak in English for the purposes of communication. This course aims to rectify these deficits.
