Each class will introduce a language point and topic through a variety of materials, then proceed to controlled practice and finish up with an opportunity to use the language in a practical, useful manner. The course uses all four skills - speaking, reading, writing and listening - with an emphasis on oral communication. Students are expected to speak English to help each other improve their language skills.

This course aims to improve students' ability to understand and use natural English expressions, vocabulary, and grammar, both written and spoken, with the main focus on communicative competence and listening skills. Students are expected to speak English to help each other improve their language skills. The course offers an opportunity for students to improve their language competence and confidence.

The schedule may change slightly. Each class may include a consolidation homework for the completed class or a preparation assignment for the following class.

All lessons are conducted in English with some Japanese for the sake of expediency. Language points are presented, practiced and then used in freer, interactive activities. Vocabulary and new expressions are introduced in each class. Vocabulary building, pronunciation and listening techniques will be taught and mastered with plenty of opportunity for students to utilise target language and expressions. Active participation is essential for the success of the course.

Where appropriate students will be told to prepare for next week's class or to consolidate a completed class with a homework assignment. This preparation will take around 30 minutes to complete. If a student is absent from a class they should catch up and keep track of instructions.

Attendance is a must. Evaluation is based on satisfactorily completing class and homework assignments.

Materials for this course are distributed in the class by the teacher. Students should keep all class materials and notes to review for the test. Students are expected to come to class with paper, pen, and dictionary.
