到達目標

This English class will give students opportunities to use their English abilities in practical situations. The instructor will provide topics of interest as motivation and to increase vocabulary useful in daily life. This class will also help students become comfortable in both speaking and understanding English even if their ability is limited. Part of this goal is to convince the students not to be afraid of making mistakes while speaking within an all-English environment.

1 Small talk: Do you enjoy small talk? What do you like to discuss? Are you a talkative person?
2 Part-time jobs: Do you have a part-time job? Do you enjoy it?
3 Successful Business: What kind of business would you like to start? Why? Who do you think is a successful? Is money important to you?
4 Computers: Do you enjoy using computers? Are you a high-tech person? Why or why not?
5 Superstitions: Are you superstitious? What kinds of superstitions are popular in Japan? Do you know superstitions in other countries?
6 Character traits: Are you shy? Outgoing? Talk about your personality? Describe your friends and family members? Age you like your mother or your father?
7 Dating: What kind of person do you enjoy dating? Where is a good place to meet a boy or girl? Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend?
8 Television: Do you watch TV ever night? Do you prefer playing on a computer or watching TV?
9 Opinions: What do you think of smoking? Do you think you should be allowed to use cell phones on the train? What is most important in your life?
10 Cities: Where would like to live in Japan? Why? What foreign city would you like to live? Why?
11 Special Days: What’s your favorite special day? How do you celebrate New Year’s Day? What do you do on your birthday?
12 Fashions: Do you consider yourself a fashionable dresser? Where is a trendy area in Tokyo? What foreign city do you think is fashionable?
13 Vacation: Where would you like to go on vacation? Who would you like to go with? Do you prefer winter or summer vacation?

16 Crime: Do you think your country is safe? Have you ever witnessed a crime? Have you ever had anything stolen?
17 Opinions: What your opinion on smoking? Religion? Music? Do you argue with your mother or father?

19 Nutrition: Do you eat good foods? Do you eat junk food? Give some examples.
20 Predictions: Where will you live in ten years? What kind of job will you have? When do you think you will get married?
21 Global Issues: Are you interested in global issues? What are they? What are important issues in Japan?
22 Weekend: Discuss and compare last weekend. What do you do when you have no schedule? 
23 Parties: What kind of questions might you ask people at a party? Do you often go to parties? Where?
24 Fear: What animal scares you the most? What's the scariest movie you've seen? Are you afraid of going to the dentist?
25 Shopping: How important are these things when you shop: variety of products, quality of products, and reputation of the store?
26 Health Problems: What do you think is the best treatment when you have a cold or a headache? Have you ever had a major illness?
27 Work and Jobs: What would you like to do after you graduate? What jobs pays a lot of money? What kind of jobs do you dislike?
28 Keeping fit: How do you keep in shape? Do you enjoy exercising? Do you go to a fitness center?

授業方法


The class is based upon communication projects that will encourage listening as well as conversation skills. The class is divided into small groups for ease in individual participation. Students will use a class text, class journal and instructor designed handouts. A short video will also be shown for further discussion.

準備学習

Students should review the weekly theme before coming to class.
Approx: 15-20 minutes.

No exam. Grading is based on classroom activities.
