授業概要

The purpose of this course is to develop students’ overall abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Emphasis is placed on collaborative learning and critical thinking. Students will work together in pairs and in groups to understand ideas, share knowledge, set goals, and present findings. Students will interrogate texts, looking for strengths and weaknesses in their construction and in the quality of evidence used to support ideas. They will learn to think critically about their own beliefs and experiences and build awareness of issues relevant to their own lives.

By the end of this course, students will be able to comprehend complex issues they have heard and read, explain those ideas to others, and express their own ideas on these issues in spoken and written English.

授業方法

This is a student-centered course. Students will learn English skills by actively using it in class to accomplish tasks in pairs and in groups. Therefore, attendance and participation are critical to success in this class. Students are expected to be on time for class, well-prepared, and use English Only for all classroom activities.

準備学習

Students will be given clear instructions on how to prepare for successive classes on a weekly basis. Typical preparation assignments include previewing reading assignments, studying vocabulary, writing responses to class readings and discussion, and preparing for presentations. Students should expect to spend approximately 30 minutes each week preparing for class.
