授業概要

This course is designed to help students improve their ability to use English for communication in academic contexts. Students will have opportunities to talk about themselves and their interests, but they will also be expected to go beyond this and express their opinions on academically-oriented topics in both discussion activities and presentations. Emphasis will be placed on listening and speaking activities, but some reading and writing activities will also be undertaken.

授業方法

A number of different activities will be undertaken in this class. For listening practice, audio and video materials from the textbook will be used, and students will be expected to discuss the topics included in these materials in order to work on their speaking skills. Discussion activities will be mainly conducted in pairs or small groups, but whole-class discussion activities and presentations will also be done if time permits.

準備学習

Students will be asked to prepare for class by completing exercises in the textbook or reading other material. Assignments such as summaries and presentation outlines will also be given (approx. 30 to 60 minutes per week in total).
