This course will enable students to improve their communication skills in English, with particular emphasis on speaking and listening. The textbook will provide the core of the course, supplemented with writing exercises and short speaking assignments. Audio-visual content will be provided using the Internet.

Students will acquire the following skills:
1. reading skills for general scientific articles
2. improved listening and speaking abilities through class participation and audio-visual facilities
3. writing skills related to their fields of study

The class will be conducted in English. Interaction between students and instructor will be encouraged, using exercises from the text book and short presentations.

Read the set unit from the textbook and review the relevant exercises from the textbook before class (approx. 20 mins.)

レポート：50％（written report and short presentation, once each semester）

小テスト：20％（exercises from text book will be used）

平常点（クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等）：30％

Evaluation will be based not only on reports and presentations, but also on exercises and participation in class.
