授業概要

このコースは内容と言語(英語)学習を統合した授業を行う。幅広い分野の英文の題材を読み、効率的かつ的確に内容を理解するためのスキル・リーディングストラテジーの実践力を身につける。またテキストブックで練習を重ねた後、実際に英字新聞記事等をつかって様々な分野の文章の内容理解・解釈や要点の分析を行い、グループデイスカッションやグループプレゼンテーションを英語で行う。 
This is a Content and Language Integrated Learning course to promote thinking skills. Class materials will include newspaper and Internet articles as complements to the core textbook. Class tasks are selected and designed to improve students’ reading strategies so that they can read and understand the materials efficiently and precisely. There will be a number of pair/small group tasks, discussions, and presentations about the contents to improve students’ critical thinking skills and promote their ability to express and exchange opinions.

英語で様々なテーマを理解し、批判的な主体性をもってメデイアの活字情報を捉えることができるようになる。 更に自分の考えを英語で説明し、意思の伝達・疎通のための英語コミュニケーションをとることができるようになる。
Students will develop their reading skills using English reading strategies, and develop a better understanding of media literacy. Students will also deepen their understanding of different ways of thinking, broaden their views about the world, and practice expressing their opinions in English.

授業方法

授業は少グループでのタスク(ペアワーク・グループワーク)を中心とする。日本語使用は最低限とし、基本的に授業内は英語でコミュニケーションを行う。幅広い分野の題材・内容についてリサーチ、プレゼンテーション、グループデイスカッション等を行う。 
The classroom language will basically be English. The teacher may use Japanese in special situations or to explain very difficult concepts, but students should be prepared to hear and speak English every time. Each class will mainly involve communicative activities such as pair work and/or group discussions, as well as a review of selected reading strategies and some key grammar points and vocabulary.

準備学習

授業準備として必ず事前に指示した箇所・課題のリーデイングをし、必要な文法・語彙やの内容理解の確認または質問したい事項をまとめておくこと(約1時間)。授業内で行うペアワーク・少グループでデイスカッション等に積極的に参加できるよう、テーマについて考えをまとめておくこと(約1時間)。
Students must read the assigned reading materials (sometimes before class, sometimes after) and be prepared for communicative classroom tasks in every lesson (e.g., comprehension questions, group discussions) and to share their ideas and opinions in class. To do this, students must read the assigned reading materials well enough to understand the linguistic aspects and the content messages of English texts for group discussions.

成績評価の方法

第1学期(学期末試験):25%(Performance on the exam.)
第2学期(学年末試験):25%(Performance on the exam.)
中間テスト:25%(Performance on group/individual presentations.)
平常点(出席、クラス参加、グループ作業の成果、課題プリント等):25%(Participation, Attendance, Group Work, In-class & HW assignments, etc.)
