授業概要

The main purpose of this course is for students to improve their reading ability. Students will be given opportunities to read the passages in the textbook, summarise the contents, think critically about the contents, and express their own opinions and ideas about them. In order to attain the purpose, classes will include various types of activities. Another important purpose of this course is for students to understand some key aspects of British culture. In order to attain the purpose, additional cultural information will be used during class, including authentic reading material and visual information.

By the end of this course, students will acquire understanding of key aspects of British culture, and will develop the skills to think critically and express their own opinions about the topics studied. They will develop reading strategies including scanning and skimming. They will build up vocabulary related to British culture, and will improve overall reading ability.

授業方法

Indicative allocation of classes: (1) Vocabulary and expression quiz [10 min], (2) Individual reading [15 min], (3) Q and A [5 min], (4) Group presentation [20 min], (5) Cultural information time [10 min], (6) Consolidation [15 min], (7) Q and A [10 min], (8) Assignments [5 min].

準備学習

Students are required to read the section of textbook to be covered in class at home, which should take about 30 minutes. They are also required to complete assignments and hand them in by the deadlines.

成績評価の方法

第1学期(学期末試験):60%
小テスト:20%
平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):20%(出席、クラス全体への貢献を重視。)
