授業概要

The main purpose of this course is for students to improve their reading ability. Students will be given opportunities to read the passages in the textbook, summarise the contents, think critically about the contents, and express their own opinions and ideas about them. In order to attain the purpose, classes will include various types of activities. Another important purpose of this course is for students to read about and discuss some key aspects of psychology in English. In order to attain the purpose, additional information will be used during class, including authentic reading material and visual information.

到達目標

By the end of this course, students will acquire the ability to understand and discuss key aspects of psychology in English, and will develop the skills to think critically and express their own opinions about the topics studied. They will develop reading strategies including scanning and skimming. They will build up English vocabulary related to psychology, and will improve overall reading ability.

授業方法

Indicative allocation of classes: (1) Vocabulary and expression quiz [10 min], (2) Pair/Group activities [25 min], (3) Presentation [25 min], (4) Additional information time [10 min], (5) Q and A [10 min], (6) Consolidation [5 min], (7) Assignments [5 min].

準備学習

Students are required to read the section of textbook to be covered in class at home, which should take about 30 minutes. They are also required to complete assignments and hand them in by the deadlines.

成績評価の方法

第2学期(学年末試験):25%(Total score of term exams)
レポート:25%(Total score of assignments given in each clas)
小テスト:25%(Total score of vocabulary and expression quizzes)
平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):25%(Total score of group presentations and attendance)
A proactive attitude towards and engagement in all class activities is essential.
