授業概要

The aim of the course is to further develop students' English communicative skills and confidence by discussing topics of interest and expressing their opinions in English. Students will work in groups to enhance co-operative spirit and to create a friendly atmosphere in which they can freely express themselves in English. At the end of each unit, students will prepare a short presentation on the topic discussed. Presentations will be given to the group members who will then ask further questions and thus create exchange of ideas and opinions.

到達目標

By discussing in English, students will develop their confidence and fluency in speaking and asking questions in English. They will also learn how to express their opinions freely and how to prepare short presentations. By weighing different sides of an issues, they will develop critical thinking skills and critical thinking attitudes.

授業方法

Classes will be conducted in English by using an interactive, communicative approach to language learning. Students will work in groups and each week a new leader will be selected from among the group members. The leader will oversee the discussion in English, take notes and report to the class at the end of each task.

準備学習

Read the set passage from the textbook before coming to class (approx. 15 mins.)
Study the example questions and responses. Memorize the patterns. (approx. 15 mins.)

小テスト:30%
平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):10%
Presentations:40%
Speak up and do not worry about making mistakes. Challenge yourself! You will be able to make a lot of progress with your English when you try to say more.
