授業概要

This course offers students the opportunity to practice their English speaking and listening skills as well as to improve their reading and writing. A relaxed atmosphere will prevail to encourage group discussion. A variety of topics will be presented to ensure that students' interest continues to be stimulated.

到達目標

It is intended that by the end of the year students will be able to converse naturally about a variety of topics, as well as give their opinions. Focus will be made on a better understanding of certain English grammar points, especially singular and plural and verb tenses. Sustained practice will result in more correct usage and more fluent speech for the students.

Topics requiring greater thought will be presented in the latter half of the year, progressing from the easier ones introduced earlier, but there will be flexibility in the order.

授業方法

Students will divide into small groups and after an initial introduction and some explanations, will be set to discuss different topics in English every week. Participation of all students is expected; some research and writing are also needed.

準備学習

Students will be regularly asked to conduct research and prepare for the following week's topics. From time to time they will also provide an initial written report in the form of a short summary of their ideas(30 minutes to 1 hour).

成績評価の方法

レポート:30%
小テスト:10%
平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):60%

教科書

No textbook is required. Handouts will be provided by the teacher.

第1回目の授業に必ず出席のこと。
