授業方法

1. The course will use the CLIL approach. CLIL means Content and Language Integrated Learning. Thus students will explore motivating science topics in English and receive related help with English. The teacher will act as an English, classroom skills, and resource expert. The textbook will be the source of English specific to life science majors. Vocabulary is supported with Japanese in the textbook. (The teacher has a science background, but not in life sciences).
2. Students will be required to produce English every class as part of their learning. Also, students will be encouraged to ask questions and use strategies such as classroom language.
Fall Semester
In the fall semester, students will be in charge of much of the class period through checking homework, managing discussions, presenting chapters, an so on.

準備学習

Before the course starts:
Students should check www.englishvocabularyexercises.com, especially the science section. Practice to build your vocabulary.
Also, before the course, students should get into the habit of reading in English. It could be readers such as the Penguin readers (search amazon.co.jp), or online materials. You don't have to understand everything, but you should practice reading.
During the course:
Students will be asked to prepare for each lesson using the textbook. (30 minutes per week)
Also, in both semesters, students will complete a learning journal. (30 minutes every two weeks.)
Also, poster (spring) and chapter (fall) presentations should take several hours outside of class.

成績評価の方法

平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):100%(Attendance, Participation (adding value to the class), presentations and written paper tests will be the main things graded. The Learning Journal will also be an important tool for communication with me and will also receive a grade. Every gradable activity will be returned or you will be given feedback.)
