授業概要

In this course we will use a textbook which introduces a wide range of interesting, topical subjects for reading and discussion. You will already be familiar with TED talks and hopefully the variety of themes introduced will offer something of interest to everyone. By covering one unit every two weeks there will be time to supplement the textbook with newspaper articles and other materials of interest to the students.

Students who take this course will have the opportunity to develop not just their reading skills but to listen to talks about the respective themes and to discuss these topics. Students will develop core academic language skills at an advanced level while studying topics that affect everyone in a global society.

授業方法

Although the course title is reading we will be working on integrating the skills of reading, listening and speaking. This course will be taught in English and it is important that you make an effort to speak in English and maintain English throughout the lesson. This means speaking to the teacher in English and to each other. This effort will be reflected in the grading.

準備学習

Class preparation activities will vary week by week. It will usually be necessary to prepare the vocabulary for the reading each week and at other times prepare notes to lead the discussion (about 30~40 minutes on average).

成績評価の方法

第2学期(学年末試験):30%
平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):70%
A positive attitude and active participation in the class are expected and will be reflected in the grading.
