授業概要

Do you know a lot of English words and can you make correct English sentences?
Do you sometimes feel that when you speak English, your words and correct sentences are not really
enough to express what you really want to say and do?

If your answer is “Yes”, would you like me to help you to understand why this is, and perhaps even help
you start solving the problem?

Then welcome to the world of Pragmatics. This is the area of Linguistics where we study how language is used in social contexts (this is a pompous and unnecessary linguistic term. It just means, “in real life”).

This class is concerned with understanding the wonderful, uniquely human thing that is creative communication.

到達目標

The aim of this course is to give advanced learners of English a deeper understanding of what Language is and how it is used.
You will explore some of the core elements that make up communication including Politeness and Impoliteness, Relational Models, and Conversation Structure.

If you are the kind of person who does homework on the train, I don't want you.
