授業概要

This course is designed to introduce students of English to the fundamental skills of academic writing and to help them internalize those skills through extensive practice. The course proceeds on the assumption that students already have a solid grasp of sentence-level grammar. Thus, the course begins with an introduction to paragraph writing, followed by progressively complex types of essays for academic purposes. Emphasis is on the macro skills of development, organization, coherence, and micro skills of diction, style, and mechanics. At all times, we will attend to audience analysis.

到達目標

The goal of this course is to provide students will skills they can apply to a variety of English writing tasks in the future. Students will learn to conduct audience analysis, respond critically to other texts, and by the end of the course identify the strengths and weaknesses of their own writing.
