授業概要

The aim of this course is to help students develop fluency in reading skills by improving comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. This course will also help you to develop personal and cross-cultural awareness and understanding by learning about and discussing various themes that will help you find out more about other cultures, your own culture and values, and about yourself.
 
Topics: Topics include: male-female relationships, love, marriage, family relationships, personal values, parents and children, happiness and what is important in life?

We will read several powerful short stories written by a variety of international authors. Students will participate in various creative discussion and writing activities that stimulate the imagination and help them to understand the themes of the story and apply what they learn to their daily lives.

授業方法

The teaching method is based on active, cooperative learning. Students will be expected to actively participate in a variety of reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities including individualized work, pair work, group work, and short presentations.

Read the relevant passage before class and complete assignments. (approx. 30 - 60 minutes).

Each of the following will count for part of your final course grade: (1) taking an active part in discussion and class activities, (2) completion of weekly class assignments and one report (3) Final test: This is a “take-home” test (written out of class) which includes several short comprehension questions and a short reflective essay/report based on the short stories.
