授業概要

This is an advanced class for all students who would like to develop their English academic listening and note-taking skills. This class should be useful for students who are thinking about studying abroad in English. We will listen to lectures on a wide range of academic subjects and practice several note-taking strategies. You will make presentations on related topics. This will help you develop and build confidence in your ability to listen to long passages of English and present your knowledge.

授業方法

You will work individually, in pairs and in small groups. We will follow the textbook. In class, we will practice a number of important academic skills through listening and note-taking. These include guessing meaning from context, identifying the key points, organizing ideas and summarizing and reconstructing lectures from notes. You will write up your notes after class and research and discuss topics before and after we study them. You will also keep a diary of podcasts and lectures that you listen to outside of class and report on what you listen to. Please come to class ready to participate actively and positively.

準備学習

Preparation will vary each week. Examples:
Read the set passage and complete the exercises (approx 30 mins)
Prepare your opinion for seminars (approx 30 mins)
Research and prepare a short presentation on your subject area or interest (approx 1 hour, twice a semester)
