This course is designed to introduce students to the skills they will need to communicate effectively in scientific communities in which English is used as the primary means of communication among a diverse global community of scholars and practitioners. Though this is a four-skills course, emphasis will be placed on preparing and executing presentations with visual aids and discussion of relevant scientific topics.

The objective of this course is to prepare students to give scientific presentations of their own research interests and topics in English. This objective will be met through continuous in-class practice of key skills and strategies.

We will need some flexibility for the schedule depending on the number of students and English ability. However, the basic structure of the course will remain the same.

This course will be conducted with an "English Only" policy. Students should come prepared to conduct all class activities in English. It is also a highly interactive course. Students will be expected to communicate actively with both the instructor and their classmates using English only. There is no textbook for this class. Materials will be provided by the instructor.

Students will be expected to prepare for their presentations outside of class (about 30-40 minutes per week) so we can use class time for presentations.

第２学期（学年末試験）：25％（A final presentation）

中間テスト：50％（Periodic presentations throughout the term）

平常点（クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等）：25％（Regular, timely attendance and participation, using English only.）

The aim of this course is language production. Therefore, all evaluation will be in the form of presentations made in class on topics selected by students.

There is no textbook for this class. The instructor will provide all course materials.

There is no textbook for this class, but students should bring a good dictionary to class each week.
