授業概要

The aim of the course is to further develop effective communication skills in English with a particular emphasis on listening and speaking by utilizing the skills and vocabulary gained in English Communication I. Students deal with more complex and sophisticated content presented in English that is relevant to their university life and subsequent academic work including lectures and academic texts. In small-sized classes, students continue to engage in communicative tasks such as pair activities and group discussions as well as making short speeches and leading group discussions which require preparation and rehearsal in advance.

授業方法

Textbook and listening activities, pair work and group discussions, surveys and interviews, paragraph writing, and short speeches.

準備学習

Listening practice and textbook reading assignment (approximately 30 minutes).
Preparation for speaking tasks (approximately 30 minutes).

成績評価の方法

Pair/Group Discussions:30%(Four Group discussions facilitated by group leaders on their chosen topics, Group leader: (1 X 15%), Group member: (3 X 5%) -- Feedback (comments) will be given through Moodle)
Listening Assessment:20%(Listening tests based on textbook units -- Numerical feedback will be given through Moodle)
In-class participation:30%(On-going assessment of weekly listening and speaking tasks -- Feedback (comments) will be given through Moodle)
Preparation / reflection:20%(Combined teacher and self-assessment of Communication Journal -- Numerical feedback will be given through Moodle)
Regular attendance, active participation in class activities, and working on assignments in a timely fashion are essential to the successful completion of this course.
