授業概要

This course is an introductory course on the theories and empirical studies in development economics. The topics covered in the course are theories of economic development, poverty and inequality, population growth and development, urbanization and rural-urban migration, human capital, agriculture and rural development, development policy making, trade and development, financial and fiscal policies, and foreign finance, investment and aid. The course uses one of the popular textbooks on development economics written by scholars in English.

授業方法

Lecture and group discussion.

準備学習

2 hours a week. Students are required to read reading materials for each class.

成績評価の方法

第2学期(学年末試験):70%(Closed book exam on the contents of the lectures.)
平常点(クラス参加、グループ作業の成果等):30%(Attendance, contents of the response papers, participation in the class are evaluated.)
Feedback will be given in class.

第1回目の授業に必ず出席のこと。

・本授業は、教職課程の「教科に関する科目」を兼ねる。
・It assumes that students have at least some background in economics, statistics and econometrics. Therefore, it is suggested that students take introductory courses on economics and statistics such as “Statistics”, “Data Analysis for Social Sciences”, “Microeconomics” and “Macroeconomics” in advance or in the same semester.
・The use of mobile/smart phones and laptops is prohibited without permission.
・Behaviour disturbing the lecture (e.g. talking with other classmates and coming to the class late and leaving early) is strictly prohibited. If a student keep disturbing the lecture even they get a couple of warnings, s/he cannot obtain credits of the class.
